UT team of researchers presents an EP-commissioned study on independent candidates
Time: 19 September 2013, 14.00-15:15
Location: Estonian Electoral Committee, Toompea 1, Tallinn.
A team of political scientists and legal scholars at the University of Tartu (Piret Ehin, Ülle Madise, Mihkel Solvak, Rein Taagepera, Kristjan Vassil, Priit Vinkel) have prepared a comprehensive study on the role of independent candidates in national and European elections in all EU member states.
The study was commissioned by the European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs in order to provide a comparative analysis of national electoral systems with respect to independent candidates. Its principal aim is to elucidate if, how, and to what extent independent candidates compete at various levels of electoral participation, including national and European elections.
The presentation will take place on the premises of the Estonian Electoral Committee (Toompea 1, Tallinn) and will be in Estonian. Those who wish to attend are kindly requested to send an email to priit.vinkel@ut.ee by September 16th.
