Guest lectures on security issues on Dec 1-2
Centre for EU-Russia Studies and Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies are honoured to host two distinguished guest lectures on 1-2 December 2016. The lectures discuss key security issues in the current political environment, both for Europe as well as for Estonia.
On Thursday, 1 December General (ret.) Hans-Lothar Domröse will give a public lecture on the topic “Fog of uncertainty – NATO challenges in times of change”. The lecture takes place at 10.15 at Lossi 36-214.
General Domröse was the Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum by 14 December 2012 to 3 March 2016. During his career he has also served as Chief of Staff at HQ ISAF in Kabul, Afghanistan, and as the German Military Representative MC/NATO and EU in Brussels.
The lecture is organised in cooperation with the Baltic Defence College.
On Friday, 2 December CEPA Adjunct Fellow Donald N. Jensen will give a public lecture on the topic “Countering Russian Disinformation in the Baltic States”. The lecture takes place at 12.15 at Lossi 36-214.
The lecture will focus on Russia’s sophisticated and effective disinformation campaign against Western values and institutions in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The Baltic States are under-studied targets for the spread of this disinformation, both in terms of its consequences, and as possible sources for countering these new forms of propaganda.
Donald N. Jensen is a Senior Adjunct Fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) where he edits the Information Warfare Initiative’s weekly monitoring brief. Jensen is also a Senior Fellow at the Center for Transatlantic Relations, Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. A former U.S. diplomat, he writes extensively on Russian foreign and domestic politics, especially Russia’s relations with Europe.
The lecture is organized by the UT Centre for EU-Russia Studies (CEURUS).
The lectures are open to all, no prior registration is required.
