Scholarships to Ph.D. students working on EU-Russia relations

The Centre for EU-Russia Studies (CEURUS) announces its second round of calls for application for PhD scholarships. The scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to individuals who are

  • admitted into the Political Science PhD programme* at the Institute of Government and Politics, University of Tartu in summer 2012 and begin their studies in fall 2012;
  • planning a dissertation project focusing on some aspect of EU-Russia relations (including aspects of EU external relations, domestic and foreign policy of the Russian Federation, topics related to the EU-Russia shared neighbourhood, etc.)

The maximum grant awarded by CEURUS is 600 EUR per month (paid during a 12-month period starting in September 2012, with the possibility of renewal subject to successfully passing the annual Ph.D. student progress review at the end of one’s first year in the programme).

The deadline for applying to the Political Science PhD programme is June 1, 2012.

In order to apply for a CEURUS scholarship, please complete, sign and submit the scholarship application form. You can either send it by mail to: Institute of Government and Politics, University of Tartu, Lossi 36, 51003 Tartu, Estonia, or  as a scanned copy via email directly to the programme coordinator, Eva-Clarita Pettai (ecpettai[at]ut.ee) at the Institute of Government and Politics by June 1, 2012.

Applications will be reviewed on the basis of
a) the relevance of the research topic in the context of EU-Russia relations and
b) the quality of the Ph.D. proposal

All applicants will be notified of the results latest by July 15, 2012.

* Individuals admitted to other Ph.D programmes offered at the University of Tartu may be considered for the scholarship but should contact Dr. Eva-Clarita Pettai (ecpettai[at]ut.ee) before applying to ascertain eligibility.
