4th Martens Summer School on International Law

The 4th Martens Summer School on International Law has been successfully concluded at the University of Tartu’s Pärnu College. The Summer school took place from 26-31 July 2015 and focussed on international law and human rights from a comparative perspective, especially taking into accounts developments in Russia, Eastern Europe and Eurasia. The faculty included Ineta Ziemele, judge at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia and formerly judge at the European Court of Human Rights, Professor Alexander Trunk and Dr Marina Trunk Fedorova, two leading Western experts on international economic law related to Eurasia and Kirill Koroteev, lawyer at Moscow’s NGO Memorial and an active litigator at the European Court of Human Rights. The course director, Professor Lauri Mälksoo from the Faculty of Law of the University of Tartu made a presentation on international law aspects of the annexation of Crimea and military conflict in Ukraine.

19 students from the following countries participated in the 4th Martens Summer School on International Law: Belarus, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Latvia, Netherlands, Russia, and South Korea.
