Start of the CEURUS Summer School

Upon their arrival at the Tallinn airport last Sunday, Ukrainian students attending the CEURUS organized Summer School on “Prospects for Democracy, Stability and Europeanization in Ukraine: What lessons from the Baltic experience?” started singing their national anthem. Dressed in traditional national costumes they thus drew attention not just to Ukraine’s National Independence Day, but also to the most difficult situation faced by their country today.
The Summer School takes place from 25-29 August 2014 at the Centre for EU-Russia Stduies (CEURUS) at the University of Tartu. The one week seminar will feature a series of lectures on democratization, minority policy, Eastern partnership and EU enlargement, Russian foreign policy and transitional justice, as well as meetings with Estonian state representatives, including President Toomas Hendrik Ilves.
On Thursday, 28 August at 17:00 a public student-to-student event will take place during the participants to the Summer School can meet with students from the University of Tartu. The Ukrainian students will have the chance to share their thoughts and experiences with the current situation in Ukraine, the Maidan movement and the fights in Eastern Ukraine as well as about the future of their country.
