Prof Peter van Elsuwege from the University of Ghent will give a public lecture entitled

TOWARDS A MODERNIZATION OF EU-RUSSIA LEGAL RELATIONS?

on May 3rd, 2012, 14.15-16.00, Tartu University Main Building, room 128

The public lecture will discuss the scope for modernisation of EU-Russia legal relations. Specific attention will be devoted to the ongoing negotiations on a new bilateral framework agreement. Moreover, the impact of Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organisation and its recent initiatives for regional economic integration in the post-Soviet space will be addressed.

Peter Van Elsuwege is Professor in EU law at the University of Ghent, specializing in EU external relations and institutional law. His research activities focus on the legal and political consequences of EU enlargement and the European Neighbourhood Policy. His recent publications include articles in European Law Review, Common Market Law Review and Columbia Journal of European Law, inter alia. He is also the author of the 2-volume monograph From Soviet Republics to EU Member States: A Legal and Political Assessment of the Baltic States’ Accession to the EU (Leiden/Boston: Martinus Nijhoff 2008).

The lecture is organized by the Centre for EU-Russia Studies (CEURUS), University of Tartu.
