Public lecture
Professor François Foret from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, will give a public lecture entitled:
“Religion and Politics in the European Union: The Secular Canopy”
(download .pdf)
on 21 May, 2015, 16:15-18:00 at Lossi 36, room 214.
Professor Foret ids author of the recently published state-of-the-art book Religion and Politics in the European Union (Cambridge Studies in Social Theory, Religion and Politics), which presented the first data ever collected on the religious beliefs of European decision makers and what they do with those beliefs; discussed popular assumptions such as the return of religion, a clash of cultures between a “European Christian club” and Islam, aggressive European secularism, and religious lobbying; and offered objective data and nonnormative conceptual frameworks to clarify some major issues in the contemporary political debate.
The lecture is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
