Professor Richard Youngs  from Warwick University will give a public lecture entitled

“Towards a more geopolitical Eastern Partnership?”

on 15 May 2014 from 14.15-15.45 at the UT Faculty of Social Sciences, Lossi 36, room 214.

The European Union’s relationship with Eastern Europe and the Caucasus is at a turning point. Russia’s increasingly assertive tactics have chipped away at the ties that bind the six Eastern Partnership countries to the EU, and the entire Eastern Partnership is on the verge of unraveling. To rescue its association with its Eastern partners, the EU must deliver more tangible results. Europe can be both geopolitical and committed to reform—but to strike the right balance, the EU must be more strategic.

Richard Youngs is senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and professor of international relations at Warwick University, UK. He was previously director of FRIDE, Madrid. He is author of seven books on different aspects of EU foreign policy, the most recent of which is ‘The uncertain legacy of crisis: European foreign policy faces the future’ (2014).

The public lecture is organized by the Centre for EU-Russia Studies (CEURUS) at the University of Tartu.
