In the opening issue of the EU-Russia Paper Series, ANATOLY KOVLER, Judge of the European Court of Human Rights, reflects on the universality of human rights under the title “Human Rights in a Contemporary Society and European Values: Critique of Eurocentrism.”

Anatoly Kovler, born in 1948, is a Russian lawyer, former Professor at the Academic Law University of the Russian Academy of Sciences and currently the Judge of the European Court of Human Rights in respect of Russia.

With this contribution, the Centre for EU-Russia Studies (CEURUS) launches its EU-Russia Paper Series which disseminates research, analysis and commentary on topics and issues relevant to the contemporary agenda of EU-Russia relations.
