New MOOC on EU-Russia relations out today
On February 11, the online classes offered for more than 800 participants by the e-course “Understanding EU-Russia Relations: Foreign Policy Actors, Institutions and Policy-Making”will officially start.
The main goal of the course is to provide an interdisciplinary overview of EU-Russia relations. The lectures cover the two actors’ policy-making and institutions in the field of foreign policy as well as their interaction and bi-lateral relations, taking into account also the repercussions on the common neighbourhood.
The course has been developed by the Skytte Institute’s manager for online learning, Ms. Anna Beitane in cooperation with a diverse team of international guest speakers as well as in-house experts from the “European Union – Russia Studies” (EURUS) MA programme and from CEURUS.
More than 850 students from all over the world have registered to attend the five-week course, making it one of UT’s most popular courses in terms of registered attendants. According to Ms. Beitane, the demand for the MOOC was higher than expected: “Such a wide interest proves that there is a global demand for better and more informed understanding of EU-Russia relations as a fundamental perspective to comprehend international developments in today’s changing world”.
The course combines academic quality with insights from “real world” decision-making by including contributions from Members of the European Parliament, the Union of European Federalists, the Estonia-Russia CBC programme, and the Barents Cooperation alongside lecturers from Tartu, Tampere, Georgetown, and Tbilisi State Universities.
Massive open online courses (MOOCs) are courses aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web, thus making learning accessible for everyone irrespective of the location or educational background.
