Dr. Anastasia Mitrofanova
Anastasia Mitrofanova is is Chair of Political Science, Church-State Relations and the Sociology of Religion at the Russian Orthodox University as well as Professor at the Russian State University for the Humanities (RGGU) and a fellow of the AURORA consortium. Her research interests include the influence of Orthodox Christianity on world politics as well as nationalism in today’s Russia and government-initiated nation-building projects in Belorussia and Moldova. Her recent publications include Politicization of Russian Orthodoxy: Actors and Ideas (Stuttgart: Ibidem-Verlag, 2005) During her stay with CEURUS she will work on a project entitled “Orthodox Fundamentalism in Contemporary Russia: Ideology and Practice.” She will collaborating with Alar Kilp at the UT Institute of Government and Politics.
