Dr. Elena Pavlova


Elena Pavlova is Senior Researcher at the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies, University of Tartu. She holds a BA degree in Portugese philology from the St. Petersburg State University, an MA in International Relations from Universidad Complutense (Madrid), and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the St. Petersburg State University. Before moving to Tartu, she taught for 15 years at the School of International Relations of the St. Petersburg State University, Russia.

Her research interests include contemporary political philosophy, theory or international relations, domestic politics and foreign policy of Latin American countries. Among her last publications are ‘The Russian Federation and European Union against Corruption: A Slight Misunderstanding?’ (in Modernisation in EU-Russian Relations: Past, Present and Future, ed. by M. David and T. Romanova, Routledge, 2016), ‘What Modernisation? The Case of Russian Partnerships for Modernisation with the European Union and Its Member States’ (with T. Romanova, Journal of Contemporary European Studies, 2014), ‘The regional and the universal: the new democratic discourses in the Russian Federation and Latin America’ (in Decentring the West : The Idea of Democracy and the Struggle for Hegemony, ed. by V.
