Call for Applications

We invite applications to our second Autumn School, jointly organised by Tartu University’s EuroCollege, the Free University of Berlin and Helsinki University’s Aleksanteri Institute from 18-24 September 2013 in Tartu, Estonia.

The Autumn School is open to MA students, advanced undergraduate students and professionals, who are most welcome to send in their application including a letter of motivation together with their academic transcripts not later than 6 September 2013.

Objectives of the Autumn School:

The 2013 Autumn school “Changing Policies and Cultures in Europe and Russia: Environment, Resources, Energy” is a one-week intensive programme, which provides a general understanding of the Baltic e region’s specific cultural, political and economic situation with regard to energy policies. The regional perspective will particularly address policies and markets of the post-command economies of Europe and of the post-Soviet space. Multidisciplinary perspectives on the issue will be presented by the international team of instructors, encompassing cultural aspects of energy, political economy and law. The international team of instructors include representatives from the Free University of Berlin, Helsinki University, Gubkin Oil and Gas University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), Technical University of Delft, University of Aberdeen, University of Eastern Finland, as well as a representative from the Energy Community Secretariat.

Students will be given the opportunity to choose a subject they would like to research from a list of topics and to develop their team work skills by working in groups and presenting their findings. One day is devoted to a field trip to Northeast Estonia, where students will visit the industrial landscapes as well as the border town of Narva.

The program awards 6 ECTS. Upon successful completion of the Autumn School, participants will receive a joint certificate from three renowned universities (Free University of Berlin, University of Helsinki, University of Tartu).

Expenditures:

The Autumn School is free of charge to all the participants. Participants are expected to pay for travel and accommodation and take care of their travel arrangements.
