Autumn School on Energy

From 18- 24 September UT’s EuroCollege together with the Free University Berlin and Helsinki University will organize the

Autumn School: “Changing policies and cultures in Europe and Russia: environment, resources, energy”

The one-week intensive seminar is co-financed and will take place in the framework of the Jean Monnet Teaching Module run by the EuropCollege and supervised by CEURUS affiliated scholar Dr. Andrey Belyi . The autumn school will host graduate-level students from all three partner universities and feature speakers from the Free University of Berlin, Helsinki University, Gubkin Oil and Gas University, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), the Technical University of Delft, the Universities of Aberdeen and Eastern Finland, as well as a representative from the Energy Community Secretariat.

The goal of the seminar is to provide a general understanding of the region’s cultural, political and economic developments regarding energy policies. The regional perspective will particularly address policies and markets of the post-command economies of Europe and of the post-Soviet space. Taking perspectives from various disciplinary angles, the international team of instructors will cover a wide spectrum of issues in the field including economics, cultural studies and law.

Participating students will have the opportunity to undertake small research projects and to develop their team work skills by working in groups and presenting their findings. Moreover, field trip will be offered to Northeast Estonia, where students will visit industrial landscapes and the border town of Narva.
